Suicide is a complex issue

Even though there isn’t one single cause for suicide, there are many ways to prevent it

What are we doing and how?

We believe that suicide prevention programmes for young people should be developed with their active participation, especially those who have experienced suicide in their personal lives. Over the past year, we have spoken to over 50 young people from diverse backgrounds to understand their experiences and ideas on youth suicide prevention. Based on their thoughts and feedback we are co-developing three suicide prevention activities:

  • A national public engagement campaign to share resources, build awareness and invite youth to talk about suicide.
  • A network of youth peer supporters who will be trained by Outlive to provide emotional support to youth in distress through a chat-based mobile app.
  • 10 youth advocates who will be trained and supported by Outlive to engage with policymakers and participate in policy processes for youth suicide prevention.

Team

Outlive is jointly implemented by three partner organisations – Centre for Mental Health Law & Policy, Sangath, and Quicksand Design Studio – and is supported by Comic Relief, UK.
